Review: Caudabe iPhone 15 cases - Sheath, Synthesis, Lucid Clear

Review samples provided by Caudabe

Caudabe sent me a few iPhone 15 cases and accessories recently and below are the pros and cons for each product.

There some similarities between the product series so I'll state the similarities upfront to avoid repetition below.

The camera protection is higher than the camera to provide protection.

All phone cases can work with glass screen protectors.

Fitting of the phone and glass screen protector is perfect. I can clamp my phone tight and the phone case will not cause the screen protector to pop up.

Sheath, Synthesis and Lucid Clear are compatible with MagSafe accessories. The magnets are slightly stronger compared to those on the iPhone, and from my other cases.

By the way, there should be shiny imprint on the interior of the Sheath. One of the review samples did not have that shiny imprint and I was told it's a manufacturing issue.

Sheath (USD 41)

The main reason to go with Caudabe is to buy the phone cases with sandstone-like texture. Caudabe Sheath has a nice surface that provides good grip.

Pros and cons
+ Beautiful design
+ Sandstone texture
+ Fingerprint resistant
+ Good grip
+ Option for covered or non-covered action button
+ Full protection on all sides
+ Front is higher than display
+ Interior has velvet-like surface
+ MagSafe compatible
+ Easy to remove
- Bottom near the ports and speakers is not textured
- A wet case will take longer to dry because of interior velvet layer

The rough surface is also resistant to fingerprint smudges. Colours available are black, gray, celestial blue, amethyst.

The pricing is alright, not ridiculously priced like some other brand.

Synthesis (USD 42)

Synthesis is a variation of the Sheath with a hard case. You'll still get the same sandstone-like texture and even the bottom is textured unlike the Sheath.

Pros and cons:
+ Beautiful design
+ Hard case
+ Sandstone texture
+ Fingerprint resistant
+ Good grip
+ Option for covered or non-covered action button
+ Full protection on all sides
+ Front is higher than display
+ MagSafe compatible
- Hard case is more difficult to remove
- Interior is plasticky

I'm not too sure how much more protection the hard case has over the more flexible Sheath but both cases will provide good protection against drops easily.

The downside is the hard case is more difficult to remove. This isn't really a problem if you don't remove your case often. Colours available are black, gray, celestial blue, amethyst.

The texture on Synthesis is more fine grain compared to Sheath which is coarser. For some reason, the bottom of Synthesis is textured by Sheath is not.

Lucid Clear (USD 38)

The main reason to get a clear case is to show off the phone design. Colours available are white, charcoal and celestial blue. And the colours are for the circle and the vertical part. The company says the clear case will resist yellowing.

Pros and cons
+ Hard case
+ Shows off phone design
+ Full protection on all sides
+ Front is higher than display
+ MagSafe compatible
- Susceptible to fingerprint smudges
- Hard case is more difficult to remove

The button cutout means you have to move your finger to better position to press the buttons.

I'm not a fan of clear cases, and I think a clear case like this draws more attention to the phone. This hard case is quite rigid and even more difficult to remove compared to Synthesis.

Veil (USD 34)

I can't say much about the Veil case since the company did not send that to me.

According to the marketing, it's the thinnest and lightest Caudabe case. The three earlier cases do make the phones thicker, but they also provide way more protection.

Glass screen protector (USD 29)

The 9H tempered glass screen protector is quite pricey but it is a good screen protector. You'll get two pieces inside the box and it comes with installation kit to make sure the screen protector is aligned perfectly on the phone. Installation is quite straightforward. Just make sure you turn off the phone before installing because it's easier to see and remove dust from a black screen.

I was able to install the screen protector without bubbles with one try.

Conclusion

Out of the phone cases, my favourite one is the Sheath. Actually that's the case I used for one of my old iPhones. I'm not sure about you but I love anything with textures.

Caudabe also sent me a 2m long braided 100W charging cable which is USD 22. I've nothing much to say except it works fine. The company should definitely start sellnig USB-C video cables now that the iPhone 15 has USB-C support.

Comments

Avoid this brand!! I purchased the Caudabe Synthesis for my iPhone and at the 13th month the case literally began to fall apart at the seams. The side of the case was separating from the back because of an insufficient plastic weld between the two parts. I sent detailed pictures to the company and showed them this was clearly a manufacturing issue, but all the company said they would do is sell me a new case at a discounted rate. I paid over $40 for the case and wouldn’t expect anything of decent quality to simply fall apart like this did. My suggestion is go with another brand that will last longer…and probably cheaper too.
