Book Review: Cusvenia Wars: Skorpikus by Miguel Angel Martinez
Cusvenia Wars is a personal comic book project by Miguel Angel Martinez, a concept artist who has worked on Horizon Zero Dawn and Killzone 2 & 3. When I was searching online for Miguel's art, I saw the video game concept art that looked so different from the style he used in this comic book. I was wondering if they were the same person. It's good to have personal projects, to have another creative outlet, to create art that you like and not just for your jobs. But you guys should definitely check out his concept art, they are amazing.
Cusvenia Wars is a 40-page short comic about three Southvenian soliders who wonder into no man's land to discover what has happened to all the troops that never came back. The art is drawn in a rather simple style that definitely looks like a personal project. The story is pretty straightforward and ends a bit too quickly. Still, it's a cool project.
What's cooler is Miguel has made action figures based on the three characters that appear in the comic. The toy looks like it was 3D-printed. There are lots of details, even more than what's shown in the comic. The vehicle design looks simple but awesome at the same time. I love the details of the tracked wheels, the shovel, guns, box, and other tools attached to the vehicle. At the time of this review, the toy is not available for sale yet, but it's coming soon, as mentioned on the Cusvenia Wars website.
