Book Review: MetamorFX: Art of Constantine Sekeris
Constantine Sekeris is a character and creature designer who has worked on films like Blade 2, Spider-man 2, Where the Wild Things Are and others.
In MetamorFX, he shares his industry knowledge in design for creatures, makeup, robots and costumes. It's not specifically a how-to book, but it has many helpful tips.
The first half of the book is on creature designs. There are sketches and the ZBrush models he created from them. They are mainly aliens and creatures you would expect from zombie shooter games. Every creature design has insightful commentary, in some cases, the creatures are designed as suits to be worn and Sekeris would explain the limits and possibilities of those designs.
The second section deals with makeup. There are many examples of his prosthetic facial makeup. Again, there are tips relating to film production. Much of the book deals with design for film and the text reflects that.
The last two sections on robots and costumes are much thinner.
This book should appeal more to creature designers.
