Book Review: Shadow of the Tomb Raider The Official Art Book
Fans who can't get enough of the game should probably check out this book. It's a wonderful game art companion to Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
The bulk of concept art is split between character designs and environment art, with the latter taking a huge portion.
Since this book is clearly influenced by Mayan and Aztec mythologies and culture, you will see the influence heavily in the designs. It's cool to see how the artists at Eidos Montréal provide their own take on ancient and mysterious civilisation, how they come up with the different settings and expand on the possibilities given the setting.
Character designs look great, particularly the tribal people of Paititi. Environment art for the jungles, villages, architecture and tombs is terrific. The artists managed to capture the mystical vibe and the feeling of discovery really well. The designs for the ruins and tombs look so good with plenty of details.
There's also a good amount of writeup that talk about the places and where the inspiration comes from.
This is a fantastic artbook at the same high quality of the artbooks for the previous two games. Highly recommended.
