Comic Review: Detective Conan Science Files: The Mystery of Insects
“Detective Conan” is a wildly popular manga series in Japan, written and illustrated by Gosho Aoyama.
The manga series has sold over 140 million copies in Japan and adapted into various platforms like anime, trading card games etc. The manga is published by Shogakukan.
“Detective Conan Science Files: The Mystery of Insects” is a standalone educational comic book that is different from the main manga series, except for the main character of Detective Conan.
The comic contains 2 separate stories and in this particular learning series book — the topic is on Insects. I managed to finish reading it in one session and it was interesting to read the comic and learn new things along the way on natural science-insects in this case. Did you know that insects are classified according to their body structure? So a spider is technically not an insect as it contains 8 legs. Or a certain species of ants can survive 45 degrees in the hot desert sun by moving extremely fast while hunting for food.
There are a lot of fun and interesting facts on the insects and kids will enjoy reading on the “mystery of insects” in this comic book. The two comic stories are quite short and they act as the “bridge” to bring in all the interesting nuggets of information on the insect world.
The first comic story tells of Detective Conan and his friends attempt to thwart a nefarious syndicate called “ Bugs paradise” which was involved in illegal insect trade while the 2nd story focused on how Detective Conan’s knowledge of fireflies helped to foil a kidnapping attempt.
Highly recommended for children who wants to learn natural science in a fun and engaging way.
