Review: Orico Solid State Flash Drive USB 3.2 Gen 1 (model USFD-S)
Review sample from Orico
The Orico Solid State Flash Drive USB 3.2 Gen 1 (model USFD-S) is a better thumb drive than the metal body model. The transfer speed is faster and the external is made of plastic which shield your fingers from the heat.
This thumb drive is available with either USB-A or USB-C connectors. There's also a USB 3.0 version which you should avoid since it has lower transfer speeds.
The prices (USD) on Amazon are as follows:
- 256GB - $43 to $46
- 512GB - $72 to $80
There are sizes from 64GB to 1TB but not all are in stock on Amazon hence I can't show all the prices. Anyway, the prices are better than the Sandisk Solid State Flash Drive which is the direct competitor.
This thumb drive is also available from Shopee SG and Lazada SG.
Below are the transfer speeds for Windows and Mac.

The advantage of such thumb drives over SSDs such as the Samsung T7 is it's more compact and there's no cable. Downside is there's more heat but that's mostly a non-issue. There could be some speed throttle.
Fast enough for iPhone Apple ProRes recording?
According to Apple, to record 4K at 60FPS to external storage, the transfer speed must be at least 220MB/s. As such, this Orico flash drive is definitely fast enough, and more compact compared to the more popular Samsung T5 or T7. The downside of course is there's a flash drive sticking out. The 2nd downside is you cannot attach an external mic to the USB-C port that's used by the external storage.
