Book Review: Art of Pernille Ørum
This is the third artbook from Pernille Orum that's the result of a successful Kickstarter campaign by publisher 3DTotal. The first two books were Blush and Coral which were both funded really quickly. People really seem to love her art and it's easy to see why.
This 152-page hardcover is a beautiful artbook that talks about Pernille's career where she started work as a 3D animator only to move on to becoming a freelance illustrator because that's where her passion for art is. She draws mostly character designs and is known for her lovely female characters. Her style is very much inspired by cell drawings of animation that she watched as a kid. I love her use of colours, lively expression and poses. This book is filled with gorgeous art.
There's also a lot to read as Pernille talks about her life, work, inspiration and her creative process. There are also several drawing tutorials where she shows her drawing process, how she uses colours, draws hair and think about lighting.
This is one of many fantastic artist-centric artbooks that 3DTotal has been putting out recently. Others artists include Asia Ladowska, Iraville, Heikala, Simone Grünewald and Beatrice Blue.
