Book Review: The Field Guide to Witches: An artist's grimoire of 20 witches and their worlds
This is a thick 312-page character design book that focuses on witches. Publisher 3dtotal has managed to get 20 artists to contribute to create this field guide.
You can think of this book as an introduction to the various types of witches, eg. Baba Yaga, Hecate, Morrigan, Weird Sisters. Each chapter starts with research, then ideation and coming up with various character design sketches. There are many useful tips and ideas to give you more to think about. And since each chapter is written by a different artist, there's a good variety of styles to see.
This book does not cover drawing techniques as there are no step by step drawing exercises. This book is for those who want to learn more about witches and creating characters.
