Book Review: TEGN Redux by Even Mehl Amundsen
Wow, this book is 400-pages thick!
And wow, the artworks look amazing!
TEGN is a trilogy of books that began life on author Even Mehl Amundsen’s Facebook page in 2016 before it was printed thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2017.
In 2023, Even partnered with Spiridon Giannakis to launch a crowdfunding campaign for the new TEGN Redux artbook that collects all the three books previously published into one huge volume. That was also a successful campaign and the huge hardcover artbook with matte paper was published by Editions Caurette.
You can consider this a fantasy artbooks that comes with a story that will appeal to those who love Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones.
The world created is filled with dwares, elves, dragons and other mythical beings. There are battles, ancient magic, mystery and epic tales.
The artworks are mostly in black and white and they were drawn with rather delicate style and precision. There's a good mix of sketches as well and those look gorgeous. If you love sketchbooks, you'll love this book.
This book is available from the publisher's online store at 70,00 €. It's a pricy book that's for sure but you're getting a book that's packed with so much to see and the designs and characters are a delight to behold.
If you like this book, also check out the sketchbooks by Peter de Seve, the artbooks for Magic the Gathering, those from Brian Froud and maybe go through this list of fantasy artbooks that I've reviewed over the years.
