Book Review: Star Wars: The Marvel Covers Vol. 1
What a terrific collection cover art for Star Wars comics we have here.
Collected in this 224-page hardcover are the cover variants from Star Wars #1, covers from Star Wars #2-6, Princess Leia #1-5 and Darth Vader #1-6. The paper used in the book is quite similar to those trade paperback comics. The hardcover allows the spreads to be opened wide and that's great.
Fans will be delighted by the variety of art and style featured. Among the artists featured are Alex Ross, John Cassaday, J. Scott Campell, Pascal Campion, John Tyler Christopher, Adi Granov, Mike Deodato, Skottie Young, Dave Dorman and many more. It's so amazing to see the individual interpretation of Star Wars from so many different artists.
In addition to the coloured artworks, selected pieces also have sketches, inked line work or black and white versions shown side by side. That provides a different feel to the cover again. There are also interviews with some artists talking about the Star Wars commission in this book.
Overall, it's a fantastic artbook that Star Wars fans should not miss.
