Book Review: 幻想水滸伝ティアクライス 公式キャラクターガイド (Genso Suikoden Tierkries Official Character Guide)
Suikoden Tierkreis, originally released in Japan as Gensō Suikoden Tierkreis (幻想水滸伝ティアクライス,? with "Tierkreis" being German for "Zodiac"), is a role-playing video game for the Nintendo DS developed and published by Konami as part of their Suikoden series. (source: Wikipedia)
This is the character guide that was published in 2009. The game has a big cast of characters of 108 heroes, of which everyone is included here.
Each character comes with a profile description, relationship chart, other interesting information like staff commentary. Some characters even have accompanying comic strips for comic relief. They are in 4-panel style as well as some that span several pages.
The character design is Japanese manga style. They are beautiful although they only come in one pose, the standing portrait. Still, the variety is amazing — not all characters are humans. As a reference for character designer, this book is great as there are lots of costumes to look at. The art is very polished, typical of top quality Japanese manga style characters.
Fans of the game and character designers should enjoy this book.
