Book Review: 入夜识 by FLZC (Evening knowledge)

I managed to discover an unusual artbook from Basheer Graphic Books during my last visit. The book had a tri-fold hardcover that's not glued to the book which has an exposed stitched spine. The book's called 入夜识 (Evening knowledge) and it's by this artist called FLZC.

This book features drawings that reminds me of those drawings of monsters, ghouls and spirits from Japanese ghost stories. The line art is fantastic with details that usually seen in comics drawn with dip pens. The strokes are lively and beautiful.

I'm not sure how the colouring was done but since the line art was able to show through the colours, the colouring could be done with watercolour. The colour scheme is subdued and goes well with the drawings.

The artworks are of spirits, ghouls and creatures. The designs and ideas are fantastic. The "characters" are dark, mysterious and sometimes ghastly. The drawing style is very clearly Asian and has manga influence.

This is the type of artbooks I wish there were more of. It's highly imaginative and feels so different from mainstream concept artbooks. It's great to see that art can have so much variety.
