Book Review: Life Drawing for Artists: Understanding Figure Drawing Through Poses, Postures, and Lighting
My impression of Rockport Publisher is they put out a lot of books on graphic design. They do publish the occasional books on drawing but this is the first time I've seen a life drawing book.
Life Drawing for Artists is a 176-page paperback instructional artbook on figure drawing. The author of this book is Chris Legaspi, an artist and workshop instructor known for his figure drawings and paintings.
This book is suitable for beginners to advanced artists. It covers the foundation and purpose of figure drawing, has techniques and strategies on how to think and approach drawing. The instructions are very hands-on, practical and insightful. All the techniques are explained with the how and the why. There are detailed breakdown on drawing different parts of the human body. Step-by-step process drawings are also included.
I've reviewed many figure drawing books before and there's no one best book. Different artists will approach figure drawing differently in their own style, but the fundamentals are always the same. So if you want to study figure drawing, be better at it, and don't already have any books on this subject, this is a book I can recommend easily. It is an insightful and it's filled with plenty of examples.
