Book Review: Tomidoron: The Art of Tomii Masak

Tomii Masak (Instagram | Twitter) is an illustrator based in Tokyo who focuses on book cover art.

This artbook is a 256-page paperback that collects the artworks that she has created from 2008 to 2023. Most pages are low gloss with a few matte pages. Binding is good.

Her illustrations usually has characters appearing in sometimes familiar everyday environments, and other times highly imaginative landscapes, such as the one you see in this book cover.

You can probably describe her style has manga style by looking at how she poses and draws her characters. There's storytelling element too. Her colouring style is either flat or textured, which provides a nice variety of visual aesthetic. There's even needlework, sewing art, included.

She looks like a very experienced and accomplished illustrator judging by the amount of work she has created over the years.

This is a beautiful artbook.
