Movie Review: Avatar

Avatar

Avatar evokes the same feeling I had when watched BBC's Planet Earth documentary, and when I played the Final Fantasy games. It's the same sense of awe people have exploring new places, looking at new worlds. The visuals are stunning and Pandora is surprisingly believable.

I don't know how they animated the Na'vi and creatures but their performances and acting are really amazing. James Cameron and his crew really nailed the expressions and the nuances of human emotion. While it still looked a bit artificial on the trailer, all that went away in the cinema.

The story is really simple. There's really nothing major to fault about the story besides the loads of cliches and been-there-done-that story arcs. I'm actually more grateful the movie didn't turn out to be irritating or disgusting like some other visual effects laded robot movie this year. If the story had been better, this would be the perfect film of the year.

I watched the movie in 3D and it was pretty cool. There's the sense of depth that make the characters and other objects pop out in a subtle way. Nothing too gimmicky. I can't compare with the 2D version since I didn't watch that, but I'll definitely be getting the blu-ray disc when it comes out.

This movie has sky-high entertainment value. Recommended to all who love sci-fi, action or nature documentaries.

4 out of 5 stars.

AMAZING!!..
damn! this is so fuckin good!
i.. just.... speechless. don't know to say what else...
Avatar is a MUST WATCH movie!!

This movie was really something, never seen anything like it.
Everything was so well done, now one day later I can't quite imagine anymore what I've seen just yesterday, but I know I was astonished. I want to see it again!

Its an epic!! Make history in movies!
Mixes YES albuns covers with World of Warcraft game.
I watched the movie in 3D too, pretty cool!!
Remembering me all the time the rain forrest in my country (Brazil), including the bugs (a lot of) and exotic flowers.

The movie is predictable, very predictable.

You have seen Pocahontas?, Avatar is exactly the same.

The technology is awesome, but: the history is simple, the characters are flat, uncharismatic; the secondary characters don't stand out, the final is extremely predictable, and the "final boss"... best not to comment.

Insist, Avatar 3D technology makes a spectacular film. But the film has nothing more.

Avatar not the film of the decade.

3 of 5 stars.

Went to watch this today but the cinema were sold out on tickets. Guess I'll have to watch it next time. :l Was looking forward to it as well.

I watched a Making of the movie, and James Cameron showed that most of the footage in the movie was pure motion capture of the actors and very few scenes done with animation itself.
Pure actor interpretation and CG dedication :)
James Cameron really added a new level of quality into the Motion Capture movie industry.

As for the story I would give a 3 of 5 stars, since it's very simple. But it was just enough to be able to show all the greatness of Pandora, which was the main 'character' in this film.

And give definitely a 5 of 5 star for all the visual effects explosion and for being able to capture facial expressions so carefully into the CG characters.

For me easily movie of the year

Story is simple, but it is still very well told and emotional. More importantly, it was the most awe inspiring film Ive seen since Jurassic Park in 1993.

The facial expressions were created by using "skull caps[, individually made for the actors,] with a tiny camera attached, located in front of the actors' faces, which collects information about their facial expressions and eyes." This information was "then transmitted to the computers."

This information came from Wikipedia (with credible citations i must add).
