Book Review: The Cinematic Art of StarCraft
In 2013, Blizzard Entertainment released The Art of Blizzard Entertainment which featured the art for World of Warcraft, StarCraft and Diablo. There was Starcraft art but StarCraft is a huge game and definitely deserve a dedicated artbook on its own, which is what we have here.
This is a huge 288-page hardcover that features the development art and stills for the game. The artworks included are for StarCraft, Brood War, Wings of Liberty, Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void.
Those are huge games and to squeeze all the concept art into a book like this is certainly not easy. This book is not meant to be a definite guide to the character, sets and environment. It's more like a huge sampling of StarCraft art.
This book has character designs, in sketches, paintings and 3D models, creature design, plenty of environment and scene art. The artworks are beautiful and really show off the StarCraft universe well. The pages are packed. There's just so much to see. All the artworks are accompanied by short descriptions, and a few longer passages that talk about specific scenes or so called cinematics in this book.
The only lengthy text appears in the introduction that talks about how StarCraft was conceived and made.
This is a substantial artbook that should please fans.
