A visit to SPCA
Yesterday, I went to SPCA for a visit.
The SPCA building is at Mount Vernon Road, just near the junction of Bartley Road. It's not a big facility but I heard from the staff there that at any one time it houses around 150 animals. They will be moving to a larger area in the future in Choa Chu Kang. The rent here around Bartley Road is supposedly high and I can understand by envisioning condominiums being built in the future on both sides of the road.
It was my first time at SPCA and I'm really impressed by the living conditions of the animals there. There's the strong smell of course with so many animals there but not that of faeces as the place is kept really clean. Most of the animals there are up for adoption, and I can see visitors going into the cages sitting on the floor playing with the animals, mostly dogs.
The animals look pretty friendly. They are very well taken care of. On the cages are colour codes and profiles of the dogs that visitors can learn more about the temperament of each dog. Some of these dogs were rescued from abusive environments, a few were sadly discarded by their owners, or whose owners can't be found.
All the animals there will stay there until they are adopted. So instead of buying a pet, I would recommend going down to SPCA to have a look instead. There are lots of wonderful animals there looking for a new home.
