Paolo Gaviria

Paola grew up in Ecuador and Colombia. She studied visual arts in Medellin, Colombia, and took some short courses in Sydney, Australia. She is currently living in Sydney, where, she says,"Mainly I live as an artist, but sometimes I have to be kitchen-hand, babysitter, waitress, model for fellow artists and practically every day job I can lay my hands on." An Illustrated Life: Robert Crumb

Robert Crumb website

Robert grew up on or near military bases around the United States. He drew compulsively through his youth, but did not attend art school. He now lives in the South of France in a house he acquired in exchange for several sketchbooks. The pioneer of underground cartooning (Zap, Weirdo, Fritz the Cat, Mr. Natural, etc.), he has also published many volumes of his sketchbooks. His current project is an epic comic-book version of the Book of Genesis. His work can be found in bookstores worldwide, in The New Yorker and at www.rcrumb.com.

Simonetta Capecchi

Simonetta was born in Milan, Italy, and grew up in Bologna. She studied architecture in Venice and is now assistant professor at the Faculty of Architecture in Naples. She was curator of an exhibition on travel sketchbooks for the cultural fair Galassia Gutenberg in Naples (www.galassia.org). Bill Brown grew up in Texas. He went to film school and then became a nomadic zine publisher and filmmaker. He considers Texas to still he his home because his P.O. Rick grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan, earned a BA from Calvin College and an MFA from the University of Illinois. Peter Arkle

Peter grew up in Scotland, completed a degree in illustration at Saint Martins School of Art and Design and an MA at the Royal College of Art, both in London, and now lives in New York where he is a freelance illustrator for books, magazines and ads. He shares an office with his wife, writes and draws a column in Print magazine, and occasionally publishes "Peter Arkle News," a zine of his illustrated journals.

An Illustrated Life: Mattias Adolfsson

Mattias grew up in a small suburb of Stockholm, Sweden, then moved to Gothenburg to study architecture and earn an MFA in graphic design at HDK School of Design and Crafts. He has had various career as a freelance illustrator, children's book author, animator and video game designer. He now lives in one of Sweden's oldest towns, the thousand-year-old Sigtuna.
